vivo V23 5G vs OPPO Reno6 5G: Camera Comparison
vivo V23 5G and OPPO Reno6 5G are some of the best mid-range smartphones in Kenya right now. We’ve already reviewed both of them(vivo V23 5G review, OPPO Reno6 5G review) including how their cameras perform – but how do they stack up against each other.
vivo V23 5G ships with five cameras – three at the back and two at the front. We have a 64MP triple camera setup that includes an 8MP ultrawide with a 120-degree field of view and a 2MP macro sensor. OPPO Reno6 5G comes with a 64MP triple camera setup that features an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lens.
For selfies, vivo V23 5G has a 50MP main and an 8MP ultrawide front-facing camera housed in the notch. On the other hand, we have a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera for the OPPO Reno6 5G.
The Vivo V23 supports up to 4K 30fps video recording for both the selfie cameras and main cameras. that’s pretty cool, especially for vlogging. You can also shoot at 1080p at either 60fps or 30fps.
Modes to play around with include Double Exposure, Pro, High Resolution, Time-Lapse, Slo-Mo, Dual View, Movie and Live Photo.
Additional settings include Framing Lines, Level Meter, WaterMark and Motion Autofocus.
You can shoot 4K video at 30fps, 1080p at both 30fps and 60fps with the OPPO Reno6 5G. Other video modes include Timelapse, Slowmo at 1080p, Dual Video and Film mode which switches to a landscape mode with either regular or ultrawide mode plus manual controls for focus, white balance, and ISO.
Camera modes to check out include Bokeh Flare Portrait, improved AI Highlight Video, AI Color Portrait, Monochrome Video, Soloop Smart Video Editor, Night Flare Portrait, Ultra-clear 108MP Image, Dual-view Video among others which I loved playing around with.
So how they compare when they are put against each other:
From the photos above, you’ll see OPPO goes for a flatter look but true-to-lfe while vivo opts for a contrasty and vibrant look on its photos. Vivo’s shots are social media ready and that’s what most people will prefer.
Even for the selfies, the shots pop out more on vivo than OPPO.
Even though vivo v23 5G takes relatively wide ultrawide photos, it can’t handle shadows and details like the OPPO Reno6 5G.
Overall, both phones pack a mean punch and provide impressive processing for daylight photos. Now let’s see how they perform when the sun begins to set.
For lowlight shots, OPPO struggles a little bit with dynamic range and shadows and vivo excels here. vivo also saturates its photos even in lowlight when compared to OPPO shots.
For some shots, vivo is more brighter like in that CK Square shot. OPPO brightens its photos for ultrawide shots.
Selfies and portraits are still handled pretty well by both.
Here are more samples:
When darkness sets in, both phones held their own.
vivo takes pretty decent night shots when compared to OPPO. Details are retained and they’re more bright even on SuperNight mode as you’ve seen above.
Night shots taken by the vivo V23 5G are have less noise. However, it struggles with flares as you’ve seen above.
Selfies on the other hand – both tie in. OPPO goes for brighter images while vivo sticks to a natural look which I preferred. With vivo V23 4G, you can choose to use the dual led lights what Vivo calls Dual-Tone Spotlight flash for lowlight selfies.
Both phones put up a tough fight and it will all come down to your preference. vivo V23 5G takes the crown for me thanks to the vibrant photos both during the day and in lowlit scenarios.
This was a camera comparison review but I’d like to add that when compared to the OPPO Reno6 5G, you are getting more buck for your money as vivo V23 5G comes with Dimensity 920 5G chipset while the OPPO Reno6 5G ships with Dimensity 900 processor. But in fairness, OPPO Reno6 5G was launched 6 months ago.
We may put the vivo V23 5G against the yet to be launched OPPO Reno7 in a future comparison review to see how it holds up.
